There are many approaches to meditation, but it is important to appreciate that meditation is not any of the many techniques that are taught, but rather, that it is beyond technique. It is a question of finding the approach that suits you and leads you into a meditative state.
The Hayloft offers a regular Friday evening “drop in” meditation at 6.15 pm for half an hour. There is no commitment to attend regularly and no charge, and you will not be asked to sit cross-legged on the floor, but on an ordinary comfortable upright chair ! This half hour starts with a short relaxation and centering exercise, and takes a theme with a short reading or poem which is followed by twenty minutes silence.
The Hayloft also offers meditation courses from time to time: an introductory course and a deepening course. They are not connected to any religion or sect, but aim to assist the participants to a greater level of inner awareness. Each course lasts for seven evenings – usually on Mondays from 7.30pm until 9pm and the present cost is £42. for the course (concessions are available where there is need). The teacher is Dinah Lawson, who has been meditating for over forty years and teaching others since 1982.
